Core Supports — Assistance with Daily Life & Social Participation

Blind & Low Vision Support

Specialist support delivered by a team with genuine, lived understanding of what it means to navigate the world with vision impairment.

What is Blind & Low Vision Support?

Support for people who are blind or have low vision is funded across multiple NDIS categories depending on the nature of the support — primarily Core Supports — Assistance with Daily Life (Category 01) and Core Supports — Social and Community Participation (Category 04). Capacity building funding may also be available for skill development programs that build longer-term independence.

What sets Joyful Support apart is lived experience at the leadership level. Our co-founder is legally blind himself — which means our approach to vision impairment support is grounded in genuine understanding, not textbook knowledge. We know what accessible, empowering support actually looks and feels like in practice.

We support participants with a wide range of vision conditions including macular degeneration, retinitis pigmentosa, glaucoma, and congenital vision impairment — tailored to the specific functional impact of each individual's condition.

Eligibility

To access this support through Joyful Support, the following conditions generally apply:

NDIS Participant

You are an active NDIS participant with vision impairment or blindness that creates functional barriers to daily life, community access, or independence

Core Supports Funding

Your NDIS plan includes Core Supports funding and your goals relate to daily living, community participation, or independence

Vision-Related Need

The support is directly related to the functional impacts of your vision condition — not general lifestyle support

Capacity Building

Your plan may also include Capacity Building funding for assistive technology training, orientation and mobility, or adaptive skill development

Complements Allied Health

Supports are in addition to, not a replacement for, vision-specific allied health services (e.g. orientation and mobility specialists, low vision therapists)

Not sure if you're eligible? Talk to your Local Area Coordinator (LAC), support coordinator, or plan manager — or contact us directly and we'll help you work it out. Eligibility is always assessed in the context of your individual NDIS plan and goals.
